Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam jointly inaugurated the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Public Service and Innovation in Reduit, Mauritius. This landmark project, implemented under the India-Mauritius development partnership, highlights India’s commitment to capacity building in the region.
The institute, funded through a $4.74 million grant under a 2017 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), will provide training for Mauritian civil servants across ministries, public offices, parastatal bodies, and government enterprises. It will also serve as a center of excellence for public administration, promoting research, governance studies, and institutional collaborations with India.
During the event, PM Modi interacted with alumni of the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) program and other Indian government scholarship recipients, recognising their role in strengthening people-to-people ties between the two nations.
The institute stands as a symbol of India’s commitment to the Global South and its strategic partnership with Mauritius, reinforcing collaboration in the Indian Ocean Region.
