Motherson Unit Wins PLI Boost For Electronics Enclosures

Samvardhana Motherson International Limited said its subsidiary, Motherson Electronic Components Private Limited, has been approved as a beneficiary under the Government of India’s Production Linked Incentive scheme through the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme.

The approval, granted by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, covers the manufacture of enclosures for the consumer electronics industry. Under the scheme, MECPL will be eligible for incentives over six financial years from FY2026 to FY2031.

The company plans to invest a cumulative Rs 19 billion during the investment period at its manufacturing facility in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu. The expansion is expected to create more than 5,000 employment opportunities at the plant.

Motherson operates as a global design, engineering, manufacturing and assembly specialist, with 425 facilities across 44 countries. While best known for its strong presence in the automotive sector, the group has diversified into consumer electronics, healthcare and medical devices, aerospace, logistics and industrial IT solutions.

The ECMS approval marks a key step in Motherson’s strategy to strengthen domestic manufacturing capabilities in the consumer electronics segment. The group is currently India’s largest auto ancillary manufacturer and ranks among the world’s top 15 automotive suppliers.

The Production Linked Incentive framework is aimed at boosting domestic manufacturing, encouraging fresh investments and reducing import dependence by offering financial incentives linked to incremental production.
