The Madhya Pradesh Government has approved the extension of the Chief Minister Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme (CMUIDS) until the 2026–27 financial year, along with an additional allocation of Rs 5 billion to support urban development across the state. The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav at the State Assembly on Tuesday.

Under CMUIDS, 1,062 projects worth Rs 10.70 billion have been sanctioned so far. Of these, 325 projects have been completed, 407 are under way and 330 are in the detailed project report or tendering stage. The scheme focuses on strengthening essential urban infrastructure, including drinking water supply, sanitation systems, street lighting, roads, drainage networks and community assets such as crematoriums, halls, shelters and playgrounds.

The additional Rs 5 billion allocation will ensure timely funding for ongoing and upcoming projects, helping municipalities improve public services and address growing urban demands.

The cabinet also approved enhanced funding for pending works under the Madhya Pradesh Rural Connectivity External Development Scheme. An earlier allocation of Rs 123.2 million has been supplemented with Rs 94.5 million to complete the remaining projects, aimed at improving rural roads and connectivity in remote districts.

In a key human resources decision, the cabinet approved the recruitment of 25 Transport Sub-Inspectors selected through the 2022 State Service Examination. The new appointees must complete a one-year computer diploma and obtain a driving licence within a two-year probation period, with non-compliance resulting in termination.

The extension of CMUIDS and the additional allocations underscore the state government’s commitment to improving infrastructure, public amenities and connectivity across both urban and rural areas. With defined timelines and accountability measures, the initiatives aim to enhance service delivery, road safety and overall quality of life for millions of residents.
