MP Signs BHASHINI Pact For Multilingual AI Governance
The conference, organised by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of Madhya Pradesh, in collaboration with the IndiaAI Mission, brought together policymakers, startups, industry leaders and central agencies to discuss the role of AI in public service delivery.
The event was inaugurated by Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav, who announced that Madhya Pradesh will soon introduce a State AI Policy in mission mode. He highlighted the importance of multilingual digital platforms such as BHASHINI in extending AI-led governance across linguistic and regional boundaries.
A major outcome of the conference was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Madhya Pradesh and the Digital India BHASHINI Division in the presence of the Chief Minister. The agreement formalises collaboration to integrate BHASHINI’s language technologies, translation APIs and AI-driven tools into the state’s digital governance platforms to enable service delivery in multiple Indian languages.
Under the partnership, BHASHINI will support the deployment of voice-first and multilingual AI solutions across various government interfaces, strengthening accessibility and improving last-mile reach. The move aligns with BHASHINI’s broader national mandate to embed Indian languages into Digital Public Infrastructure.
Abhishek Singh, Additional Secretary, MeitY and CEO of IndiaAI, emphasised that language datasets are critical to improving AI systems and noted that BHASHINI plays a key role in enabling seamless multilingual translation for effective digital governance.
Sanjay Dubey, Additional Chief Secretary, Madhya Pradesh, said the integration would allow state platforms to operate smoothly across Indian languages, ensuring equitable access for citizens from diverse linguistic backgrounds.
BHASHINI CEO Amitabh Nag participated in the thematic session on “Technology-Led Governance for All”, where he underlined that AI adoption is a continuous and evolving process dependent on real-world feedback and collaborative ecosystems. He stressed that high-quality datasets form the backbone of scalable and inclusive language AI systems.
The engagement reaffirmed BHASHINI’s role as a critical enabler of India’s AI-driven governance vision, ensuring linguistic diversity strengthens digital inclusion across states.
