Nagpur Station West Gate Parking Facility to Open Within Days
The parking area can accommodate around 1,600 two-wheelers and 290 cars. Senior Divisional Commercial Manager of Central Railway’s Nagpur Division Aman Mittal said preparations were under way to make it operational shortly. At present, private vehicles, autorickshaws and passengers compete for limited space near the entrance, resulting in disorder and frequent congestion.
The handover took place nearly three years and three months after redevelopment work began in July 2023. Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the wider station redevelopment project in December 2022, which carries an estimated cost of Rs. 4.88 bn. The parking facility had been awaiting transfer amid concerns over water leakage and seepage in some areas.
Railway authorities pressed for an early opening while directing officials to complete pending repairs, improvements and finishing work alongside operations, subject to safety requirements. The basement includes marked vehicle bays, entry and exit ramps, barriers, lifts and staircases linking it with the station premises. Signboards and planned digital signage will assist motorists with navigation.
The wider traffic plan includes dedicated vehicle lanes, a prepaid autorickshaw stand and a designated queueing area. Prepaid autorickshaw services will operate separately on the ground floor. A proposed joint patrolling post for the Railway Protection Force and Government Railway Police, along with a traffic police booth, is intended to strengthen surveillance and regulate movement. The broader redevelopment, including new buildings and passenger amenities, is targeted for completion by March 2027.
