Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has outlined an ambitious blueprint to position the state as India’s leading logistics hub, committing to lower logistics costs through expanded ports, airports, roads and railways. Speaking in the State Assembly on 26 September, he pledged to create two million jobs and establish dedicated universities for logistics and civil aviation.

The plan dovetails with South Central Railway’s (SCR) projects aimed at decongesting corridors and improving freight efficiency. A senior SCR official said the proposed Muddanuru–Pulivendula–Mudiguba–SSPN line (105 km, Rs 25 billion, five-year target) would link agro-zones with ports to aid exports.

Other projects include the four-laning of Obulavaripalli–Renigunta (54 km, Rs 13.5 billion), Guntakal–Obulavaripalli (254 km, Rs 52 billion), and Nidadavolu–Duvvada (198 km, Rs 88 billion), all critical for port access. A Vijayawada bypass (37 km, Rs 19 billion) is also planned to ease urban congestion.

High-speed surveys are under way for bullet train corridors: Hyderabad–Bengaluru (626 km, survey by March 2026) and Hyderabad–Chennai (705 km), expected to shrink travel time dramatically and strengthen IT–logistics synergies.

Coastal links such as Narsapur–Machilipatnam (74 km, December 2026) and Machilipatnam–Repalle (45 km, January 2026) will enhance port access, while inland lines like Kondapalli–Sattupalli (62 km, October 2025) and Ongole–Donakonda (87 km, November 2025) will boost mining and agriculture.

Sanctioned works are progressing: Nadikudi–Srikalahasthi (309 km, Rs 31 billion) has 90 km completed, while the Guntur–Guntakal doubling (401 km, Rs 36 billion) has 354 km finished and electrified. Vijayawada–Gudur tripling (288 km, Rs 35.5 billion) has 250 km ready to ease port-bound traffic. New entries like Errupalem–Namburu (57 km, Rs 20 billion) and Pandurangapuram–Malkangiri (174 km, Rs 36 billion) are advancing.

In total, projects worth more than Rs 410 billion underscore Naidu’s infrastructure-led growth model. With full rail electrification and 1,560 km added over the past decade, Andhra Pradesh is positioning itself as a logistics leader on the east coast.

Local farmers and traders welcomed the vision. “The new rail projects in the capital region and Guntur will open up bigger markets,” said farmer Ch Sadanandaiah. “Better connectivity will cut wastage and improve our profits.” I Srinivas Reddy, Secretary of Nunma Mango Market, added: “Faster railway transport will greatly benefit perishable commodities.”
