NALCO Launches IA91 Aluminium Alloy Ingot

The National Aluminium Company Limited, a Navratna central public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Mines, launched the IA91 grade aluminium alloy ingot at its Kolkata stockyard on 25 February 2026. The launch was presided over by Anil Kumar Singh, Director (Commercial), and was attended by senior company officials. The initiative forms part of the company’s efforts to broaden its portfolio of value added products.

IA91 is described as a high performance, silicon-based casting alloy engineered to provide an optimal balance of castability, mechanical strength and corrosion resistance. The alloy has been developed for advanced casting applications and is reported to perform well in gravity die casting as well as low pressure die casting. The composition emphasises silicon content to enhance fluidity and reduce shrinkage during solidification. Its metallurgical characteristics aim to meet the demanding specifications required by component manufacturers.

The primary applications identified for the ingot include automotive components, electrical and power equipment, industrial machinery and traditional foundry operations. Company leadership congratulated the production and marketing teams and indicated that the expanding product range reflects a continued commitment to delivering high quality, value added products. The launch is expected to strengthen the company’s offering in segments that require specialised casting materials.

The product release follows disclosure to the stock exchanges and is recorded on the company website, reflecting a standard corporate communications process. Issued by the corporate communication department, the announcement underlines the company’s focus on innovation and market responsiveness. The company indicated that availability of a domestically produced specialised ingot is intended to support local component makers and may reduce reliance on imports for certain casting grades. The introduction of IA91 is positioned as a step towards meeting domestic demand for specialised aluminium casting alloys and supporting downstream manufacturing requirements.
