The Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has proposed extending the Sarai Kale Khan–Gurugram–Bawal Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System corridor to Behror in Rajasthan. The Public Investment Board has cleared the proposal and forwarded it to the Ministry of Finance for financial approval after incorporating comments from the Department of Expenditure and other stakeholders. The extension would add around 11 km in Haryana and 25 km in Rajasthan with four new stations between Bawal and Behror and the stretch is expected to be covered in about 24 minutes.

The supplementary detailed project report was submitted by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) on May nine and the ministry forwarded the PIB note on July nine. The extension is estimated to increase the project cost by around Rs 80 billion (bn), taking the total proposed cost to nearly Rs 430 bn. Earlier approvals this year restored the corridor beyond Dharuhera to Bawal.

Union Minister of State and Gurugram member of parliament Rao Inderjit Singh said the development reflected sustained efforts to restore the corridor to its originally planned alignment and that it was discussed at a meeting of the National Capital Region Planning Board. The ministry has factored in the upcoming logistics hub at Nangal Chaudhary, the planned expansion of IMT Bawal and the Khushkhera–Bhiwadi–Neemrana investment region while approving the extension, which officials said will benefit thousands of workers in the Shahjahanpur–Neemrana–Behror industrial belt. The ministry has written to the Department of Expenditure seeking approval for the extension beyond Bawal and forwarded the file for financial clearance after PIB approval.

The Gurugram–Alwar corridor was one of three priority Namo Bharat corridors identified in 2019 alongside Delhi–Ghaziabad–Meerut and Delhi–Sonipat–Panipat. It is projected to record the highest ridership by 2041 with an estimated 1.51 million (mn) commuters daily, compared with 1.14 mn and 0.98 mn on the other corridors. Social organisations, industrial associations and residents of both Haryana and Rajasthan had consistently sought restoration of the Behror terminus and officials said the project will boost the economies of south Haryana and neighbouring Rajasthan.
