National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), a Navratna central public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Mines, launched the IA91 Grade aluminium alloy ingot on 25 February 2026 at its Kolkata Stockyard. The new IA91 alloy is a high performance silicon based casting alloy engineered to provide an optimal balance of castability, mechanical strength and corrosion resistance. The launch was announced in a press release issued by the company. The product is intended to be distributed through the company's existing marketing channels to reach manufacturing customers.

IA91 has been developed for advanced casting applications and is particularly suited to gravity die casting and low pressure die casting techniques. Its properties make it appropriate for components used in the automotive sector as well as electrical and power equipment, industrial applications and foundries. The design focus was to meet industry requirements for reliable castability combined with enhanced durability. Material trials and quality assessments were reported to have been central to development to ensure consistency for industrial use.

The product introduction was performed by Anil Kumar Singh, Director (Commercial), in the presence of senior company officials at the stockyard. Company leadership conveyed congratulations to the production and marketing teams for the development and commercialisation of the new alloy. The chairman commented that the expanding product portfolio reflects NALCO's continuing commitment to deliver high quality value added products. The development involved close coordination between technical, production and marketing departments.

The company expects the addition of IA91 to broaden its range of value added offerings and to support downstream manufacturers seeking specialised casting alloys. The move is part of an ongoing effort to enhance product diversification and to strengthen supply chains for sectors requiring advanced aluminium castings. The company anticipates that IA91 will help manufacturers reduce reliance on imports and support domestic supply chain resilience.
