National MISHTI Workshop Held in Vijayawada

A national-level workshop on MISHTI (Mangrove Initiative for Shoreline Habitats and Tangible Incomes) was held recently in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, bringing together forest officials, experts and key stakeholders to deliberate on sustainable mangrove conservation and restoration.

The workshop was inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Shri Pawan Kalyan, who acknowledged the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and the support of Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Shri Bhupender Yadav in strengthening mangrove conservation efforts through the MISHTI scheme.

Anand Mohan, Chief Executive Officer, National CAMPA, delivered a key presentation outlining the objectives and implementation framework of MISHTI. The initiative focuses on mangrove restoration, shoreline protection, biodiversity conservation and the creation of tangible livelihood opportunities for coastal communities. MISHTI also aligns with the goals of the Mangrove Alliance for Climate, of which India became an active member during COP-27 of the UNFCCC.

The workshop highlighted the critical role of mangroves in climate resilience and coastal protection, while underscoring the need for coordinated efforts among States and institutions to ensure effective implementation.
