NIELIT to Set Up India's First Quantum and AI Campus in Amaravati
The initiative aligns with Andhra Pradesh’s proposed Andhra Quantum Mission and forms part of the state’s wider Quantum Valley strategy to build a globally competitive innovation ecosystem. Senior officials from the state and central government witnessed the signing, including the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and senior representatives from MeitY and NIELIT. The Amaravati campus is expected to anchor talent development and industry collaboration in quantum science, machine learning and related engineering disciplines.
NIELIT is an autonomous scientific society of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology with Deemed-to-be University status and multiple constituent campuses across India. The institute operates an extensive national network of centres and accredited partners and has delivered large scale skilling and certification programmes in electronics and information and communication technologies. The Amaravati campus will be developed within this Deemed-to-be University framework while representing an institutionally dedicated academic hub focused on Quantum and Artificial Intelligence.
The campus will concentrate on domains such as quantum computing and algorithms, artificial intelligence and machine learning, quantum communication and cybersecurity, quantum hardware and systems engineering and high-performance computing, and will stimulate AI-quantum convergence research. Academic offerings will include undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes alongside advanced laboratories, industry-linked centres of excellence and incubation support for deep-tech entrepreneurship. The project is expected to strengthen India’s capabilities in next generation technologies and enhance the country’s position in global deep-tech education and innovation.
