Southern Railway has announced temporary changes to train operations as Chennai Egmore undergoes redevelopment, with nine Express trains set to originate from or terminate at Tambaram and Mambalam instead of the city terminus between August five and 20. The measures are intended to facilitate platform and station works and will affect both long distance and suburban services. The changes will require adjustments to station operations and passenger movement over the fortnight.

Two Express services, the Ahmedabad-Tiruchirappalli Weekly Special Express and the Tiruchirappalli-Ahmedabad Weekly Special Express, will be diverted from their regular routes for the duration of the schedule change. The rerouting will alter arrival and departure points for passengers travelling to and from Chennai central areas and may require revised travel plans for connecting services. Commuters with connecting reservations have been urged to verify boarding points and departure times ahead of travel.

Suburban operations will see a mix of full and partial cancellations overnight and late at night. Three EMU services from Chennai Beach to Tambaram scheduled to leave at 11.20 pm, 11.40 pm and 11.59 pm have been fully cancelled, while two services from Tambaram to Chennai Beach leaving at 11 pm and 11.40 pm are also not running. In addition, five EMU services will be partially cancelled between Chennai Beach and Tambaram, and three services that run between Chennai Beach and Chengalpattu will be curtailed between Chennai Beach and Tambaram.

Passengers have been advised to check revised timetables and station notices before travel and to use Tambaram and Mambalam as alternate boarding or alighting points where applicable. Southern Railway indicated the changes are temporary and slated to end on August 20, with normal operations expected to resume thereafter. Passengers are encouraged to allow additional time for transfers and to consult official Southern Railway announcements or station enquiry counters for the latest information.
