NPO Urges Local Contractors for NH-02 Road Project
NHIDCL plans to undertake strengthening and development of the old NH?39, now designated National Highway?02, on an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) mode contract. The work is slated to cover the corridor from Mao Gate (Km 212+328) to Taphou Kuki (Km 264+313), spanning 51.985 kilometres in total. The organisation noted the project specifications and scope as part of its call for local participation.
The NPO said past projects involving external contractors had demonstrated a tendency to prioritise faster completion over workmanship, resulting in compromised standards. It argued that engaging local contractors would make follow?up and accountability more practicable for residents and local authorities. The organisation highlighted challenges faced by the public when executing agencies are headquartered outside the state, citing obstacles in communication and grievance redress.
The body issued a firm warning against the acceptance of tenders quoted at below?minus rates and stated such bids would not be permitted for execution. It confirmed that any attempt to proceed contrary to its position on fair bidding practices would be rejected and handled seriously. The NPO presented its stance as an effort to ensure durable infrastructure and to safeguard the interests of road users and the local populace.
