Odisha Plans Science City in Bhubaneswar by 2036

The Government of Odisha has unveiled plans to develop a state-of-the-art Science City in Bhubaneswar, aiming to foster scientific advancement and contribute to the vision of a ‘Viksit Odisha’ by 2036.

The announcement was made by Science and Technology Minister Krushna Chandra Patra on Thursday. He said the proposed Science City would act as a centre for innovation, public engagement, and scientific learning.

“I recently visited the Science City in Ahmedabad to understand its structure and functionality. Inspired by its success and on the suggestion of Chief Minister Majhi, we are moving forward with a similar project in Bhubaneswar,” Patra said. “Scientific progress is essential to the state’s development, and this initiative will be a cornerstone in achieving the Viksit Odisha 2036 goal.”

He added that several Odia officers based in Ahmedabad had pledged their support and expertise for the proposed facility.

As part of a wider initiative to improve scientific infrastructure, the state also plans to establish science parks, centres, or planetariums in every district.

“We intend to implement at least one science-related facility in each district—whether a park, a centre, or a planetarium—to nurture scientific curiosity among students and the wider public,” said the Minister.
