Ambienta’s platform company, Officine Maccaferri S.p.A., has acquired CPT Group, a leading Italian developer of robotic prefabrication systems and digital control technologies for mechanised tunnelling. The move positions Maccaferri as a global player in integrated tunnelling solutions, blending traditional and advanced mechanised systems.
Based in Nova Milanese, CPT serves major global contractors across Europe, Southeast Asia, and Australia. The company offers robotic prefabrication (Robofactory), productivity-monitoring software for Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs), and eco-designed spacers, making it a pioneer in Industry 4.0-driven automation for underground construction.
The acquisition, Ambienta’s second add-on for Maccaferri, will enable the group to tap into the €1 billion global tunnelling market with a fully integrated offering—including steel ribs, fibres, gaskets, Robofactory systems, and digital tools. CPT’s technology has already been employed in Maccaferri’s semi-automated steel rib installations.
The deal aligns with Ambienta’s ESG-focused investment strategy. CPT’s automated systems reduce oil release by 25 per cent and concrete defects by 30 per cent, boosting safety and lowering environmental impact.
Andrea Venturini, Private Equity Partner at Ambienta, noted that the acquisition strengthens Maccaferri’s role as a consolidator in specialised infrastructure niches. Stefano Susani, CEO of Officine Maccaferri, highlighted the opportunity to build a global tunnelling leader backed by innovation and sustainability.
With this addition, Maccaferri continues its transformation into a technology-led provider of climate-resilient infrastructure solutions, capitalising on the rising demand for safe, efficient, and low-impact underground construction.
