Over 20 government departments owe crores property tax

Municipal Corporation (MC) Commissioner Sachin Gupta convened a crucial meeting of the property tax branch on Tuesday, taking significant steps to address outstanding property tax dues. In a determined move, Commissioner Gupta ordered the issuance of notices to 22 government entities with a staggering outstanding amount of Rs 23.84 crore owed to the MC.

During the meeting, Commissioner Gupta sought an update on property tax collections from officials. It was revealed that between April and September, an encouraging sum of Rs 9 crore had been successfully collected from individuals who had previously defaulted on their property tax payments.

Officials provided insights into the entities that had failed to fulfill their property tax obligations. Some of the notable government departments with outstanding property tax dues include Tau Devi Lal Stadium, Power Grid, ITBP, Indian Institute of Soil Water Conservation, HSVP's Water Treatment Plant at Sector-1, and Moginand Police Colony. Additionally, several government departments find themselves in arrears exceeding Rs 10 lakh each. These include Gymkhana Club Sector 3, Shivalik Country Club, Red Bishop Tourism, Rajiv Gandhi Sports Stadium, Sector 6 HSVP office, Sector 1 District Court, Sector 20 Boosting Station, Government Youth Hostel Sector 3, and Lawyers Chamber Sector 1, among others.

The MC's decisive action to send notices to property tax defaulters, including government entities, underscores its commitment to ensuring financial compliance and equitable contributions to municipal revenue. This initiative reflects the MC's dedication to maintaining the financial health of the corporation while upholding accountability in property tax payments.
