Passenger Vehicle Dispatches Rise 21.8 Per Cent to 454,000

Domestic passenger vehicle dispatches from automakers to dealers increased 21.8 per cent year-on-year to 454,574 units in September 2026, according to data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). Dispatches stood at 373,347 units in September 2025, indicating a rise of 81,227 units over the year-ago period.

The increase reflected stronger deliveries across the passenger vehicle segment during the month. Automakers use dispatches to dealers as an industry measure of wholesale movement, although the figure does not represent final sales to consumers. The data covered vehicles supplied by manufacturers to their dealer networks in the domestic market.

Two-wheeler sales also recorded growth in September. Total dispatches rose 13.5 per cent to 2,463,000 units from 2,170,000 units in the corresponding month last year, an increase of 293,000 units. The segment includes motorcycles, scooters and other two-wheeled vehicles supplied by manufacturers to dealers.

Three-wheeler dispatches to dealers increased 16 per cent to 98,162 units in September 2026, compared with 84,635 units in September 2025. The year-on-year increase amounted to 13,527 units. The figures indicate broad-based growth across the passenger vehicle, two-wheeler and three-wheeler categories during the month, with each segment reporting higher dispatches than in the previous year.

SIAM released the figures on October 15, providing a consolidated view of vehicle dispatches for September. The data distinguishes wholesale dispatches from retail registrations, which are recorded separately when vehicles are sold and registered with customers. Passenger vehicles, two-wheelers and three-wheelers together form key segments of India’s domestic automobile market, making their monthly dispatch trends an indicator of manufacturer and dealer activity.
