Passenger Vehicle Sales in India Hit Record 4.3 Million Units in FY25
Utility vehicles were the top growth driver, accounting for 65 per cent of total PV sales, up from 60 per cent the year before. SIAM credited the growth to new model launches, modern features, and attractive discounts. India also recorded its highest-ever passenger vehicle exports at 770,000 units, a 14.6 per cent increase, driven by strong demand from Latin America, Africa, and even developed countries.
The broader automobile sector posted 7.3 per cent growth in domestic sales and 19.2 per cent in exports, supported by government policy, infrastructure development, and demand for sustainable mobility. In the two-wheeler segment, sales reached 19.6 Mn units, growing 9.1 per cent. Scooter sales led the recovery due to improved rural connectivity and consumer confidence. Exports rose 21.4 per cent to 4.2 Mn units, with strong demand from overseas markets. Electric two-wheelers now account for over six per cent of total two-wheeler sales.
