Patel Engineering Bags Rs 9.6 Billion Irrigation Contract

Patel Engineering Ltd (PEL), in joint venture with a partner firm, has secured a Rs 9.6 billion contract from Maharashtra Krishna Valley Development Corporation (MKVDC) for constructing a major pipe distribution network in Satara district. The project will span KM 87 to KM 135 of the Nira Deoghar Right Bank Main Canal and includes minor canals from KM 65 onwards.

Located in Kalaj village, Phaltan taluka, the infrastructure will be completed within 36 months. PEL holds a 20 per cent share in the joint venture, amounting to Rs 1.92 billion.

The contract covers excavation, pipe-laying, valve installation, chamber construction, testing, and commissioning. Post-construction, the contractor will handle operations and maintenance for five years.

"This project is a key step in enhancing irrigation infrastructure and improving water management in the region," said Kavita Shirvaikar, Managing Director of PEL.

The development aligns with Maharashtra’s ongoing initiative to modernise its irrigation systems and ensure consistent water access for agricultural communities.
