As part of the Special Campaign for Disposal of Pending Matters (SCDPM) 5.0, the Department of Pharmaceuticals (DoP) has identified 11,100 Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras across India as Outdoor Cleaning Sites. This initiative was finalised during the preparatory phase of target identification, which concluded on 30 September 2025.

Under the department’s guidance, all organisations under its purview have adopted specific Swachhata-focused targets, as cleanliness remains a key pillar of the campaign. The Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Bureau of India (PMBI), the implementing agency of the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP), has planned a large-scale cleanliness initiative covering 11,000 Janaushadhi Kendras in line with guidelines issued by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG).

In addition to the Swachhata drive, the department and its organisations are undertaking dedicated efforts to clear pending matters, including MP and PMO references, State Government communications, Parliamentary assurances, inter-ministerial references, public grievances, and appeals.

Efforts are also underway to review and close physical and electronic files, while optimising office space by converting idle areas into productive zones such as canteens, indoor recreation facilities, and crèches. These changes aim to enhance workplace efficiency and employee welfare. Notably, Hindustan Antibiotics Limited (HAL) has prepared a plan to reclaim 15,000 sq. ft. of office space under the SCDPM 5.0 initiative.

Simultaneously, agencies under the department are engaged in identifying and disposing of e-waste and scrap materials, with an estimated Rs 1.6 million expected to be generated as revenue from the exercise.

Across its organisations, the department has also compiled 12 Best Practices spanning multiple categories, focusing on Ease of Doing Business, citizen-centric governance, and environmentally sustainable and eco-friendly practices.
