In a significant step towards boosting regional air connectivity, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the newly developed Satna Airport and the upgraded Datia Airport in Madhya Pradesh. This milestone supports the UDAN scheme’s vision of expanding affordable air travel across India and marks a major leap forward for the Bundelkhand and Baghelkhand regions.

The events were attended in person by Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu at Datia and Minister of State Murlidhar Mohol at Satna, along with top state leaders and officials.

Satna Airport: Northeastern MP’s Aviation Gateway

Developed by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) at a cost of Rs 369.6 million, Satna Airport aims to serve as a key regional hub. Its terminal spans 768 square metres and can handle 50 peak-hour passengers, with an annual capacity of 250,000. The facility includes modern amenities, a recarpeted runway, apron for Dornier-228 aircraft, ATC tower, fire station, solar-powered lights, and water reuse systems — highlighting its sustainability credentials.

Datia Airport: Bridging Spiritual Heritage With Air Access

Built at a cost of Rs 606.3 million, the upgraded Datia Airport strengthens access to the culturally rich town known for the Peetambara Peeth and Datia Palace. The terminal covers 768 square metres and can serve 150 peak-hour passengers and 250,000 annually. The airport is currently fit for ATR-72 aircraft with future plans to handle A-320s. Infrastructure additions include runway upgrades, apron bays, air traffic control and firefighting facilities, supported by eco-friendly features like rainwater harvesting.

These developments are expected to create jobs, improve accessibility to religious and industrial hubs, and stimulate regional growth in hospitality, education, healthcare, and commerce. The government’s sustained focus on transforming India’s aviation infrastructure is evident in its continued efforts to connect remote regions and empower local economies.
