PM Inaugurates Projects Worth Rs 29,700 Million in Daman

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and dedicated development projects worth Rs 29,700 million (mn) in Daman across healthcare, aviation, tourism and urban infrastructure. He noted strong public turnout and administrative progress since his last visit. The measures were described as part of a coordinated effort to improve connectivity, education and local economic opportunity.

The Prime Minister placed the announcement in a national context, citing growth of seven point seven per cent for 2025–26 and seven point eight per cent in the quarter to March 31. He linked the performance to infrastructure investment and welfare reforms and highlighted Diu powering all government buildings with solar energy. Rooftop solar and plantation drives were noted as continuing priorities.

Healthcare reforms featured Ayushman Arogya Mandirs and the digital health mission to extend guaranteed free treatment up to Rs 0.5 million for eligible households. The Prime Minister said Ayushman cards and Jan Aushadhi Kendras have delivered savings estimated at about Rs 2,250 billion (bn). He noted gains from local hospitals and new postgraduate medical education and said these measures should expand access and quality of care in the region.

The education agenda includes a new NIFT campus and expanded technical courses at ITI Daman intended to retain students locally and connect youth to global opportunities. Sports and tourism strategies were signalled as engines for local employment, with schemes such as Khelo India and Dekho Apna Desh driving a reported tenfold increase in tourist footfall and newer sea front and heritage projects. He emphasised continued central support for MSMEs and the established man-made fibre industry in Dadra and Nagar Haveli as central to plans to build manufacturing capacity. The Prime Minister affirmed ongoing support for youth, farmers and entrepreneurs as the administration seeks sustained socio-economic transformation in the Union Territory.
