PM Modi Begins Shinkun La Tunnel Project; Benefits for Troops
The Shinkun La Tunnel is poised to become the highest tunnel in the world, stretching 4.1 kilometers in length with twin tubes. It will be constructed along the Nimu-Padum-Darcha road, situated at an altitude of approximately 15,800 feet. The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) will oversee the construction of this ambitious project, which has been allocated a budget of Rs 16.81 billion. The project was given the green light by the cabinet committee on security, led by the Prime Minister, in February of the previous year.
The tunnel will feature cross-passages every 500 metres to enhance safety and accessibility. It is anticipated that the construction will take about two years to complete, marking a significant achievement in infrastructure development for the region.
