Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a series of infrastructure and connectivity projects in Assam in a day-long visit, collectively valued at Rs 54.5 billion. The largest project was the Kumar Bhaskar Varma Setu across the River Brahmaputra, which was reported to connect Guwahati and North Guwahati and was built at a cost of Rs 30 bn. The inaugurations took place in Guwahati and surrounding areas and were followed by further programme events in Kamrup district.

He also virtually inaugurated a temporary campus of the Indian Institute of Management Guwahati and the National Data Centre for the North Eastern Region at Amingaon in Kamrup district. The Prime Minister flagged off 225 electric buses under the PM-eBus Sewa Scheme, including 100 for Guwahati, 50 for Nagpur, 50 for Bhavnagar and 25 for Chandigarh. Earlier in the day he inaugurated an Emergency Landing Facility on the Moran Bypass in Dibrugarh district, a facility that was constructed at a cost of Rs 1 bn, and he witnessed an aerial display involving fighters, transport aircraft and helicopters.

He addressed a Booth Vijay Sankalp Sabha in Guwahati and described the entire North-East, including Assam, as the Ashtalakshmi of India, asserting that the National Democratic Alliance government led by his party had played an important role in the region's development over the last 11 years. He criticised the Congress for what he characterised as prior negligence and underdevelopment and cited central allocations to the region as evidence of change. He stated that the government had allocated an estimated Rs 5.5 trillion to the North-East during that period and that the region had seen unprecedented infrastructure investment.

He said that improving connectivity and infrastructure in the North-East would generate employment for young people and bolster growth. He informed that a record Rs 497.25 bn has been earmarked for Assam under tax devolution for the 2026-27 financial year and that river tourism infrastructure would be developed in the state. The visit was presented as part of ongoing efforts to integrate the region more closely with national development plans.
