Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for multiple development projects worth over Rs 73 billion at Churachandpur, Manipur, today. Addressing the gathering, he praised the courage and determination of the people and highlighted the hills of Manipur as a priceless gift of nature, symbolising the hard work of the region’s communities.

Shri Modi noted that these projects, valued at approximately Rs 70 billion, will enhance health and education facilities and improve the lives of tribal communities. He extended his congratulations to the people of Manipur and Churachandpur on these initiatives.

Highlighting connectivity challenges in the border state, the Prime Minister remarked that since 2014, the government has invested significantly in road and rail infrastructure. He revealed that Rs 37 billion has already been spent on National Highways, with new projects worth Rs 87 billion underway, connecting hundreds of villages and benefitting tribal communities.

Rail expansion is progressing, including the Jiribam–Imphal line, which will link the state capital to India’s national rail network with an investment of Rs 220 billion. The newly constructed Imphal Airport, built at a cost of Rs 4 billion, and the introduction of helicopter services have strengthened air connectivity and created new employment opportunities for the youth.

Shri Modi emphasised that initiatives like the nationwide pucca house scheme have already built nearly 60,000 homes in Manipur. The government has also provided free electricity connections to over 100,000 families and improved access to tap water for more than 350,000 households under the ‘Har Ghar Nal Se Jal’ scheme.

On social infrastructure, the Prime Minister highlighted the establishment of a medical college in Churachandpur and the development of modern health services under PM-DIVINE. He noted that approximately 250,000 patients have received free treatment under Ayushman Bharat, saving poor families Rs 3.5 billion in medical expenses.

Shri Modi addressed the importance of peace for development, acknowledging recent dialogue with local groups in the hills and valleys. He announced support to build 7,000 new homes for displaced families and a special Rs 30 billion package, including Rs 5 billion specifically for those affected by violence.

Education and tribal development are also a focus, with more than 500 villages benefiting from the Dharati Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan. The number of Eklavya Model Residential Schools is being increased, with 18 new schools under construction, alongside modernisation of colleges and schools in hill districts.

Highlighting women empowerment, Shri Modi stated that the government is constructing working women’s hostels to support the daughters of Manipur. He concluded by assuring that the government will continue supporting peace, prosperity, and development in Manipur.
