In a major development boost for his parliamentary constituency, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Varanasi on Saturday to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for a series of infrastructure projects valued at around Rs 22 billion.
During the visit, PM Modi will also address a public gathering at 11 a.m. and release the 20th instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme. Over Rs 205 billion will be transferred directly to the bank accounts of more than 97 million farmers across India, reaffirming the government’s ongoing commitment to the agricultural sector.
To improve regional connectivity, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the widening and strengthening of the Varanasi–Bhadohi road and the Chhitauni–Shool Tankeshwar road. A new railway overbridge at Hardattpur will also be opened to help decongest the busy Mohan Sarai–Adalpura route.
Additionally, the foundation stones will be laid for road upgrades in Dalmandi, Lahartara–Kotwa, Gangapur, and Babatpur, as well as new railway overbridges at Level Crossing 22C and Khalispur Yard to enhance local transport infrastructure.
In a move to modernise Varanasi’s electricity network, the Prime Minister will launch power projects worth over Rs 8.8 billion. These include the Smart Distribution Project and the undergrounding of overhead power cables to improve the reliability and safety of electricity supply.
To boost tourism and preserve the city’s cultural legacy, redevelopment works at eight riverfront Kuccha Ghats will be inaugurated, along with beautification of the Rangildas Kutiya ghat and pond in Shivpur and restoration of the historic Durgakund.
These projects reflect a holistic approach to Varanasi’s development, combining infrastructure enhancement with cultural preservation and agricultural support.
