Data shared by the Ministry of Rural Development in the Lok Sabha shows that approvals for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin (PMAY-Gramin) in Andhra Pradesh have slowed sharply. The records show no new sanctions in 2021-22, zero point eighteen million (mn) sanctioned houses in 2022-23, 11 new approvals in 2023-24, 504 approvals in 2024-25 and no fresh approvals in 2025-26; only 515 new rural houses were sanctioned in the three most recent financial years.

Work on previously sanctioned houses has continued and thousands of units proceeded to completion across successive financial years, indicating that implementation has not stalled despite the slowdown in fresh sanctions. Government data indicates ongoing construction and continuing fund utilisation under earlier allocations. The slowdown in fresh sanctions has prompted concern among local stakeholders.

Central assistance also fell markedly; the Centre released Rs 270 crore in 2023-24, equivalent to 2.7 billion (bn), with no releases recorded in 2024-25 and just Rs 2 crore, equal to 20 million (mn), in 2025-26. The report shows construction continued using prior allocations even as new disbursements reduced. Officials informed Parliament that the pattern reflected completion of earlier projects while fresh sanctions slowed.

At the national level, the government reported that 41.8 million (mn) rural houses have been allocated under PMAY-Gramin since inception, of which 39.2 million (mn) have been sanctioned and 31 million (mn) completed as of 16 July 2026. Eligible beneficiaries continue to receive financial assistance and convergence benefits such as toilets, electricity, drinking water and LPG connections under scheme guidelines. The data does not explain the causes of the decline in fresh approvals, so prospective applicants are advised to monitor official announcements and future allocations closely.
