The President of India inaugurated the Nand Kishor Somani Oncology Block of Ramakrishna Mission Sevashram (the Mission) at Vrindavan on 20 March 2026, marking an expansion of cancer care facilities in Uttar Pradesh. The ceremony was presided over by the President, who highlighted the significance of accessible treatment for life threatening illnesses. The establishment of the oncology block was presented as a step towards strengthening local health infrastructure and supporting vulnerable patients.

The President described the Ramakrishna Mission as a powerful symbol of the confluence of spiritual consciousness and humanitarian service and traced the institutional legacy to Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and his disciple Swami Vivekananda. The Mission was characterised as conveying a message that love, service and compassion constitute the supreme path to realising the Divine and that selfless service forms the real expression of spirituality. The remarks framed the new facility as an embodiment of those values applied to healthcare.

The address noted that cancer remains one of the most serious health challenges and that timely diagnosis and access to high quality treatment can prove decisive in saving lives. It was observed that many families face financial barriers that make treatment difficult or impossible and that institutions driven by public service can play an active role in social welfare. The President pointed to awareness campaigns and screening facilities that aim to prioritise prevention and early treatment and to the inclusion of cancer care under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, which has extended affordable services to millions.

The President appreciated stakeholders associated with the Mission and expressed confidence that their sustained contribution would be instrumental in improving people's lives. The remarks underlined the dual role of medical institutions in treating disease and restoring dignity, hope and confidence to patients and families. The inauguration was presented as part of continuing efforts to build a healthier and more self reliant nation.
