Project GANGA Launches GangaFiber Broadband Services in Uttar Pradesh
The initiative has received more than 3,000 applications from aspiring DSPs since its launch in June. More than 600 shortlisted candidates have completed training conducted by OIL, covering broadband technology, business operations, marketing and customer service. The first DSP networks are being rolled out with financial support under the state government’s CM-YUVA scheme.
The trained DSPs have the capacity to connect up to 150,000 homes across Uttar Pradesh, according to the programme. By relying on local entrepreneurs, Project GANGA aims to create a distributed broadband network while supporting new businesses in districts across the state.
GangaFiber’s consumer plans start at Rs. 399 per month, including taxes, for a 50 Mbps connection. The plans extend to Rs. 1,179 per month for a 1 Gbps connection and include access to more than 100 television channels and 13 over-the-top platforms.
Manoj Kumar Singh, chief executive officer of the State Transformation Commission, said the first networks going live represented an early test of the programme’s approach to improving digital connectivity through local entrepreneurs. He said the initiative was intended to support access to education, healthcare and remote work, while helping Uttar Pradesh build digital infrastructure.
Vynsley Fernandes, whole-time director of HGS and managing director and chief executive officer of OIL, said the training of more than 600 DSPs had moved the programme from planning towards implementation. Project GANGA was launched under the aegis of the State Transformation Commission to provide broadband access through a network of local providers across the state.
