PTC Industries Bags ISRO Order for Titanium Alloys
Vacuum Arc Remelting is a critical secondary melting process used to produce aerospace-grade titanium alloys, enabling precise control over chemistry, solidification and cleanliness under high vacuum conditions. The Double VAR process, in which the alloy is remelted twice, delivers exceptionally high chemical homogeneity, superior metallurgical cleanliness and enhanced fatigue strength and fracture toughness, while ensuring compliance with demanding space and aero-engine material standards. The use of Grade 1 titanium sponge as the starting material further ensures very low interstitial content, a key requirement for space-grade alloys.
The order is seen as a strong endorsement of PTC Industries’ metallurgical expertise and process control capabilities, reflecting VSSC’s confidence in the company’s ability to deliver world-class titanium materials. The engagement directly supports India’s indigenous space and aerospace programmes and aligns with the government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision by strengthening domestic capability in critical strategic materials and reducing dependence on imports.
PTC Industries has established itself as a trusted supplier of mission-critical materials and precision components to India’s aerospace and defence ecosystem, including Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, the Defence Research and Development Organisation and BrahMos Aerospace. Internationally, the company exports titanium and superalloy castings to leading global aerospace and defence OEMs such as Safran, Dassault Aviation, BAE Systems and Israel Aerospace Industries, reinforcing its position as a globally credible manufacturer of advanced aerospace materials.
