PTC Industries Wins VSSC Order for Aerospace Titanium Ingots
The order involves the conversion of 40 tonnes of Grade 1 titanium sponge into Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy ingots using the Double Vacuum Arc Remelting (Double VAR) process. The material will meet stringent quality, purity and performance requirements for space and aerospace applications.
Vacuum Arc Remelting is a critical secondary melting process for producing aerospace-grade titanium alloys, enabling precise control over chemistry, cleanliness and solidification. Double VAR melting further enhances chemical homogeneity, metallurgical purity, fatigue strength and fracture toughness, ensuring compliance with the most demanding space and aero-engine material standards.
The order is a strong endorsement of PTC Industries’ metallurgical expertise and process control capabilities, reflecting VSSC’s confidence in the company’s ability to deliver mission-critical materials. It also supports India’s indigenous space and aerospace programmes, in line with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision of reducing import dependence in strategic materials.
Over the years, PTC Industries has emerged as a trusted partner to India’s aerospace and defence ecosystem, supplying critical materials and components to organisations such as Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Defence Research and Development Organisation and BrahMos Aerospace.
Internationally, the company exports titanium and superalloy castings to leading global OEMs including Safran, Dassault Aviation, BAE Systems and Israel Aerospace Industries, reinforcing its position as a globally credible supplier of advanced aerospace materials.
