The Quality Council of India (QCI), in partnership with Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), hosted the Inter PSU Gunvatta Manthan at its New Delhi headquarters, bringing together major public sector enterprises to advance India’s national quality movement.

The discussions highlighted QCI’s role in strengthening quality excellence through structured frameworks and national-level assessment models. Public sector undertakings shared experiences across Six Sigma, Lean practices, Quality Circles, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), digital automation and supplier development. The forum also helped benchmark performance and identify opportunities for improvement.

The initiative seeks to deepen collaboration and cross-learning among PSUs, aligning with QCI’s mission to develop globally competitive, quality-driven institutions supporting the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.

Led by BHEL’s Head of Corporate Quality and Business Excellence, Dr Durgesh C. Gupta, and supported by QCI’s National Accreditation Board for Certification Bodies (NABCB), the event brought together CPSEs such as BEL, BPCL, EIL, GAIL, IOCL, PGCIL and THDC. The platform enabled the exchange of best practices in quality management, operational efficiency, supply chain quality, digital transformation and sustainability-focused performance.

QCI Chairperson Jaxay Shah reiterated the organisation’s commitment to strengthening the national quality ecosystem across both public and private sectors. He emphasised that initiatives such as the Inter PSU Gunvatta Manthan help embed a culture of excellence in industrial operations.

BHEL’s Director (R&D), S. M. Ramanathan, underscored the vital contribution of PSUs to India’s socio-economic development. He highlighted the importance of simplicity and effectiveness throughout design and delivery to ensure quality translates into customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.

NABCB Chairperson Dr Ravi P. Singh reaffirmed the need for robust and credible conformity assessment systems to enhance the reliability and global standing of Indian quality frameworks.

The event concluded with a joint session between QCI and BHEL outlining potential collaborative models, including customised quality partnerships and maturity enhancement programmes. The Inter PSU Gunvatta Manthan reinforced the commitment of India’s public sector institutions to quality-centric governance and operational excellence.
