Heavy freight is already running on newly completed port-rail links worth Rs 22.12 billion, while a major road grid worth Rs 160 bn is being built to bridge the last mile to Krishnapatnam Port and the Kris City industrial hub. The investments are reshaping transport corridors across Nellore and aim to support coastal trade and industrial activity. Work is proceeding under tight deadlines to deliver connectivity for port-bound freight.

Ministry data show rail-evacuation lines are 100 per cent operational and seven major road corridors are under development to handle increased trade. The plans trace to a 2022 review by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade under the Sagarmala programme, intended to cut freight bottlenecks and logistics costs. Officials say the combined approach is expected to improve throughput and reduce junction delays.

All three sanctioned rail projects have been commissioned, including the Rs 18.25 bn Obulavaripalle–Venkatachalam freight link, the Rs 3 bn South Port spur from Gudur and the Rs 870 mn Krishnapatnam–Venkatachalam doubling with electrification. These lines, together with trunk upgrades such as the Gudur–Gummidipundi third and fourth lines, are designed to move heavy mineral and industrial freight to the coast without junction delays. Electrification enhances efficiency.

Road logistics are being expanded across seven packages worth Rs 160.22 bn, led by the Rs 68.57 bn upgrade of the proposed NH-67 linking Bellary to Krishnapatnam via Naidupeta. A greenfield road across Khandaleru Creek worth Rs 50.39 bn will integrate the north and south industrial clusters of Kris City. The works are intended to knit together ports, production and markets.

Other projects include a six-lane Naidupeta link at Rs 13.99 bn, four-laning of Varagali Road at Rs 9.09 bn and two dedicated port road packages totalling over Rs 9.5 bn, plus feeder roads to NH-5. Local representatives said the large investment marks a new chapter for the district and should bring industries closer to markets, reduce transport costs and generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs. The transformation is visible in new tracks and fresh highway stretches across Nellore.
