The Ministry of Rural Development has reviewed preparedness to ensure uninterrupted implementation of major rural welfare and infrastructure programmes in view of the evolving situation in West Asia and potential impacts on global supply chains, commodity prices and inflation.

It is monitoring developments that may have indirect implications for rural livelihoods, housing construction, road development and watershed activities and has put in place mechanisms to maintain continuity of benefits and timely fund flow.

On employment, MGNREGA remains fully operational until the commencement of the proposed VB–G RAM G Act, 2025, and there will be no disruption in provision of wage employment to rural households. All statutory entitlements and existing Central Government notified wage rates continue in force and the Ministry has released Rs 177.44 billion (bn) as the first instalment towards the wage component under MGNREGA to maintain liquidity and ensure uninterrupted wage disbursal. Upon commencement, the proposed Act is expected to provide an enhanced guarantee of 125 days of wage employment with revised wage rates to be notified.

For housing, the Ministry is implementing Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana Gramin for construction of 49.5 million (mn) houses by March 2029 and is prioritising timely direct benefit transfers, real-time monitoring through AwaasSoft, geo-tagging and accelerated completion of ongoing houses. Convergence support on mandays, sanitation, drinking water, LPG and electricity is being ensured so beneficiaries receive a complete package, while creation of material banks is being promoted to enhance resilience against market volatility.

Road works under PMGSY remain sanctioned or under execution and around 12,100 km of road works under PMGSY IV are at the tendering stage, with bitumen exposure remaining limited as a share of project cost. The Department of Land Resources is implementing the watershed development component of Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana 2.0 in five mn hectare to strengthen water conservation and agriculture intensification and is coordinating with the Ministry of Agriculture and other stakeholders to address emerging situations and ensure smooth implementation.
