Saudi Arabia's Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization and the Saudi Ports Authority (MAWANI) have imposed a ban on the import of vehicles from 20 automakers who failed to submit their supply plans for 2024. This decision affects new light vehicles under 3.5 tons and remains in place until the automakers comply with the submission requirement.

The ban aims to ensure compliance with technical regulations for registering vehicle data and issuing energy efficiency cards. The authorities will publish the list of non-compliant automakers on the unified electronic portal for energy efficiency.

Automobile agents in Saudi Arabia are urged to ensure their manufacturers adhere to these requirements to avoid disruptions. The move underscores Saudi Arabia?s commitment to maintaining stringent standards and enhancing regulatory oversight in its automotive sector. The Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization had previously identified 21 companies that failed to meet the submission deadline last year, emphasising the ongoing challenge of regulatory compliance among vehicle manufacturers.
