SECL DigiCOAL Showcased at CVC National Workshop
DigiCOAL was described as a comprehensive digital ecosystem designed to strengthen operational oversight and institutional accountability across mining activities. SECL has integrated advanced technologies into core processes to enhance real time monitoring, data analytics and decision making capabilities. Key components showcased included sensor based heavy earth moving machinery fleet monitoring, video analytics and connected worker systems, drone based surveillance and data driven mine planning.
The heavy earth moving machinery fleet monitoring system tracks location, operating hours and fuel consumption and enables automated detection of anomalies such as unusual fuel drops, excessive idle time and route deviations to reduce inefficiencies. Video analytics and connected worker systems were presented as improving safety compliance, operational control and emergency response. Drone surveys were highlighted for precise identification of encroachments, monitoring of haul roads and slopes and assessment of drainage, particularly during the monsoon season.
The presentation also noted integrated digital platforms for digital land records, online training modules, spare part management and a centralised digital war room that collectively create a tamper proof governance framework. The inclusion of DigiCOAL as a model initiative at the CVC workshop signalled how Ministry level policy and operational technology adoption are reshaping the mining landscape. The recognition reinforced the sector's commitment to building a future ready, accountable and digitally empowered mining ecosystem.
