Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal Calls on Youth to Drive 'Viksit Bharat' Vision

Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, has urged the nation’s youth to take the lead as “ChangeMakers” in shaping a self-reliant and developed India, or ‘Viksit Bharat’. Speaking at his alma mater, DHS Kanoi College in Dibrugarh, Assam, Sonowal inaugurated a series of infrastructure initiatives and inspired students to embrace their pivotal role in India’s transformation.

The minister inaugurated a fitness centre, a drinking water facility, and the Dr Yogiraj Basu Memorial Science & Technology Building under the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS). Addressing the gathering, he described the youth as “the force of transformation” during the Amrit Kaal – a period of significant national opportunity.

“You are not just students; you are the leaders of change,” said Sonowal. “With knowledge, fitness, and a sense of responsibility, you can become agents of transformation for society, the economy, and the country.”

Highlighting the importance of well-being in nation-building, he added, “Yoga is not merely a form of exercise but a path to balance and clarity. When you are healthy and happy, your contribution to society becomes more impactful.”

Sonowal emphasised that the era of Atmanirbhar Bharat presents immense scope for innovation, entrepreneurship, and leadership. “This is the time to rise, innovate, and actively shape the future. The journey to a developed India is possible only if our youth lead from the front,” he stated.

The newly inaugurated facilities, he noted, represent a comprehensive approach to education—fostering intellectual growth, physical fitness, and emotional well-being. The fitness centre is designed to encourage discipline and wellness, the water facility provides access to clean drinking water, and the science block aims to inspire innovation and research.

The event also showcased cultural and academic performances by students. Sonowal praised their creativity and energy, expressing confidence in their potential to shape a strong and compassionate India rooted in traditional values.

He concluded by reinforcing the government’s vision of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas,” and said this inclusive development goal can only be realised through active youth participation in education, fitness, and innovation.

Also present were Assam Cabinet Minister and local MLA Shri Prashanta Phukan, Assam Tourism Development Corporation Chairman Shri Rituparna Baruah, Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation Deputy Mayor Shri Ujjal Phukan, Dibrugarh Development Authority Chairman Shri Asim Hazarika, and DHS Kanoi College Principal Dr Shashikanta Saikia.
