Sterlite Technologies Limited (STL) has launched India’s first Hollow Core Fibre (HCF) cable aimed at meeting the low-latency and high-bandwidth requirements of modern data centres, hyperscalers and high-frequency transmission networks. The company presented the cable as a product of its industry-leading research and development engine designed for AI-ready digital infrastructure. The launch positions STL as the first firm to develop and manufacture HCF technology in India and to offer an air-core optical option for domestic and international networks.

Unlike traditional optical fibres that carry light through a solid glass core, the hollow core design guides light through an air-filled core and is reported to enable signals to travel approximately 46 per cent faster, significantly reducing latency and signal loss. To address diverse network needs, STL has engineered a hybrid cable architecture that integrates Hollow Core Fibre with G.654.E fibre optimised for ultra-low loss and large effective areas for long-haul transmission, and G.657.A1 NOVA to ensure versatility and broad coverage. The combined approach is intended to serve both short-haul, ultra-low-latency connections and longer-distance links where low loss is critical.

The firm said the development underlines its commitment to the AI data centre market and to powering high-speed connectivity at scale. Company materials noted that its technology roadmap is supported by more than 780 patents and a stated goal of advancing glass-to-terabit connectivity, reflecting sustained investment in deep-tech innovation. STL’s chief technology officer was reported to have framed the launch as a defining moment that demonstrates the company’s capability to innovate and to empower hyperscalers and data centres globally.

The company highlighted its global manufacturing footprint across North America, Europe and Asia and said its solutions are delivered in more than 100 countries to cloud and data centre companies, telecom operators, internet service providers and large enterprises. The launch is expected to enhance options for operators seeking sustainable, high-performance optical solutions for AI workloads and latency-sensitive applications. STL indicated that the hybrid HCF cable will support the evolving demands of next-generation networks while strengthening the firm’s position in the global connectivity market.
