Spain's Suber Group has announced plans to invest two billion US dollars (US$2 bn) in the semiconductor industry in Madhya Pradesh. The investment will support establishment of wafer fabrication, assembly, testing and packaging facilities aimed at advanced integrated circuit manufacturing. The company said the project is intended to strengthen local manufacturing capabilities and to integrate with India's semiconductor policy initiatives. The announcement follows recent policy measures intended to attract chipmakers to India.

The development will cover fabrication capacity as well as back end operations, with an emphasis on advanced packaging and testing processes that are critical for chip production. Suber Group indicated that the facilities will target both domestic demand and exports, and will be designed to meet global supply chain standards. The investment is presented as part of a broader effort to attract specialised manufacturing to the region. The facilities will incorporate modern equipment and aim to meet applicable environmental and safety standards.

The group reached an agreement with Madhya Pradesh authorities to identify land and support infrastructure, and will work with local suppliers to build an ecosystem around the plant. State officials have outlined incentives and facilitation measures to enable construction and commissioning, according to the announcement. The company also plans to collaborate on skills development to support recruitment and training for technical roles. Work on approvals and clearances will precede construction and commissioning.

Observers say the move complements national efforts to boost chipmaking capacity and reduce import reliance, while offering strategic diversification for global semiconductor supply chains. Industry analysts note that large scale projects of this nature typically proceed in phases and involve long lead times for equipment installation and qualification.
