Telangana Plans AI Traffic Signal Integration For Hyderabad

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy proposed integrating traffic signals across Hyderabad and deploying artificial intelligence to improve traffic management and regulate flow during heavy rain. The proposal was discussed at a meeting with the founder and chief executive of Analog AI, Alex Kipman, and Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Ltd (MEIL) managing director PV Krishna Reddy at the Bodhi Pavilion in the MCR HRD Institute. Analog AI and MEIL signed a memorandum of understanding in the presence of the chief minister to explore a pilot project for smart traffic control.

The chief minister urged effective deployment of physical intelligence technologies to address urban challenges and sought integration of systems across the transport network. Company representatives briefed him on the planned pilot and outlined technical approaches for responsive signal control and infrastructure monitoring. The officials indicated the pilot would prioritise faster problem resolution and data collection to support planning in the rapidly growing city.

Representatives explained that physical intelligence, combining artificial intelligence, sensors and robotics, would enable real-time adjustment of traffic signals based on congestion, detection of water leaks before they worsen and optimisation of power supply according to demand. They added that the system would be capable of clearing routes for ambulances and fire services during emergencies to improve response times. The initiative was presented as a means to enhance government operations and strengthen citizen services through data-driven infrastructure planning.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, ministers N Uttam Kumar Reddy and Jupally Krishna Rao, Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju, Government Adviser K Ramakrishna Rao, and Invest Telangana chief executive and Hyderabad Metro Rail additional managing director B Ajith Reddy. Officials emphasised coordination between state departments and private partners for implementation and monitoring of the pilot. Further technical and implementation details were expected to be developed as the memorandum moved into execution.
