The Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Ltd (TGSPDCL) is planning to establish 25 electric vehicle charging stations across Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) bus depots within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation limits, as the public transport operator prepares to introduce 2,200 electric buses across Greater Hyderabad.

A coordination committee meeting was held at TGSPDCL headquarters, attended by officials from TGSRTC, to review measures required for providing electricity connections to EV charging points. Discussions focused on infrastructure requirements and the steps needed for laying electricity lines to support the new facilities.

Beyond the 25 charging stations in Greater Hyderabad, TGSPDCL also plans to set up two charging stations at the Suryapet depot and one each at the Sangareddy and Nalgonda depots. The planned network of charging stations is expected to require around 124 megawatts of power supply.

TGSRTC Vice Chairman and Managing Director Y. Nagi Reddy said the corporation aims to introduce electric buses on a large scale in the Greater Hyderabad region by the end of the year. He added that space would be arranged at suitable locations for switching stations or substations required to support the charging infrastructure.

TGSPDCL Chairman and Managing Director Md. Musharraf Faruqui directed officials to examine applications submitted by TGSRTC, prepare cost estimates by 1 February and initiate the required works. Senior officials from TGSPDCL, TGSRTC and the Telangana Renewable Energy Development Corporation participated in the meeting.

The initiative marks a significant step in strengthening Telangana’s electric mobility ecosystem and supporting the state’s transition towards sustainable public transport.
