Telangana Sanctions Rs 2 Billion for Flood Relief Works

The Telangana government has sanctioned Rs 2 billion for immediate relief operations in rain- and flood-affected districts. According to the official orders, Rs 100 million each has been allocated to seven severely impacted districts — Kamareddy, Medak, Nirmal, Adilabad, Nizamabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, and Rajanna Sircilla — while the remaining 26 districts will receive Rs 50 million each.
The funds will be utilised for urgent repairs to roads, culverts, bridges, and restoration of electricity supply in affected areas. However, the government has clarified that the relief amount cannot be used for crop loss or ex gratia payments, which will be issued separately following proper assessment.
Flood-Affected Families Receive Aid
In Karimnagar district, financial support has been extended to families impacted by the floods. Pumpukadi Nagaiah, who went missing while crossing the Manair river near the Upper Maneru project in Gambiraopet mandal, remains untraced. A multi-department rescue operation is ongoing. District Collector Sandeep Kumar Jha handed over a Rs 500,000 cheque to Nagaiah’s wife, Laxmi, as government relief.
In Lingannapet village, where livestock losses were reported, aid included Rs 100,000 to Gaddamidi Manemma for two cows and Rs 50,000 to Praveen Goud for one cow.
During a visit to flood-hit Mancherial district, Labour & Mines Minister and Chennur MLA Gaddam Vivekanand announced that compensation would be extended to all farmers whose crops were damaged. He was accompanied by District Collector Kumar Deepak, DCP A Bhaskar, and other officials.
Farmers expressed concern over damage caused by backwater release from the Kaleshwaram project, which they claim has affected their fields for the last five years. Vivekanand assured that fair compensation will be provided, noting that prior to the project, farmers in Chennur recorded up to 70 per cent higher yields. Over 200 acres of crops have reportedly been destroyed in this season’s flooding.
Heavy Rain Forecast and Rainfall Surplus
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for several Telangana districts over the next 24 hours, forecasting heavy rains, thunderstorms, and gusty winds of up to 40 kmph. Districts under alert include Adilabad, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Jagtial, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Karimnagar, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mahbubabad, Mancherial, Mulugu, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Peddapalli, and Rajanna Sircilla.
On Monday, Indervelly in Adilabad recorded the highest rainfall at 11.02 cm. The state’s average daily rainfall was 12.7 mm, more than double the normal 6 mm.
Alangapuram in Suryapet recorded the highest temperature at 33.7°C, while Hyderabad remained relatively dry. Maredpally recorded 1.5 mm, below the city’s normal of 4.3 mm. The city’s maximum temperature reached 32°C at Nampally.
Since 1 June, Telangana has recorded 753.3 mm of rainfall, representing a 28 per cent surplus compared to the seasonal normal of 587.5 mm. Hyderabad too saw a 30 per cent surplus, receiving 618 mm of rainfall against the normal 475 mm.
