The Times of India reports that the largest mall in India will open in Delhi in 2027 as part of IGIA's (Indira Gandhi International Airport) Aerocity. This is part of a proposal to create the first aerotropolis (city close to an airport) in the country, which will expand eight times in the following five years. Aerocity will have added more than 10 million square feet by 2029, bringing its total leasable space to 1.5 million square feet. Then, 6.5 million square feet more will be added to the global business district, resulting in an 18 million square foot leasable area that may be utilised for offices, retail establishments, food courts, public spaces, and a mega mall.

The largest mall in India right now is Lulu Mall in Lucknow, followed by DLF Mall of India in Noida.

The construction of this mall and the aerotropolis's extension are expected to cost $2.5 billion in total. By 2027, Aerocity at Indira Gandhi International Airport will have grown to be India's largest mall following a huge expansion that would see the country's first aerotropolis increase by approximately eight times in the next five years. The mall will be 2.8 million square feet in size.

By 2029, Aerocity's leasable area will have grown to over one crore sq ft in two phases from its current 1.5 million sq ft. There is still more to come. Following that, an extra 6.5 million sq ft will be added to the global business district, bringing the total leasable space for offices, shops, food courts, a mega mall with a focus on entertainment, and public spaces to 18 million sq ft.
