Tiruchi Invites Bids For Tiruverumbur Bus Terminus

Tiruchi City Corporation has invited tenders to construct a new bus terminus at Tiruverumbur on the Tiruchi–Thanjavur National Highway, aimed at catering to both city and mofussil bus services.

The project has been sanctioned Rs 62 million under the Sixth State Finance Commission grants for Tourism Towns for 2024–25 and 2025–26. It will be developed on around one acre of land near the existing bus stand and is intended to function as a transit hub for newly added municipal wards.

According to officials, the civic body has paid Rs 25 million to the district administration to acquire land at the premises of the former Tiruverumbur panchayat union office. The project scope includes bus bays, a commercial complex and passenger amenities such as cloakrooms and sanitation facilities. Construction is expected to be completed within two years from the start of work.

As per the tender notification, the last date for submission of bids is January 2. Work is likely to begin in the coming months after award of the contract, with officials aiming to launch preliminary activities before the model code of conduct for the 2026 Assembly elections comes into force.

A dedicated bus terminus at Tiruverumbur has been a long-standing demand of residents. While the proposal was first mooted in 2024, progress was delayed due to challenges in finalising land acquisition.
