TRAI Drive Test Assesses Mobile Network Quality in Sonipat

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released the findings of an Independent Drive Test (IDT) conducted across Sonipat city in Haryana during December 2025, aimed at informing consumers about the real-world quality of mobile network services. The exercise evaluated both voice and data performance offered by Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) under live network conditions.
During the IDT, TRAI captured performance data on key indicators such as call setup success rate, drop call rate, call setup time, speech quality and data throughput. Advanced test handsets and software tools were used, with monitoring carried out in real time and results analysed comprehensively. The findings are published on the TRAI website and in newspapers to promote transparency and encourage service improvement.
The drive tests were conducted by the TRAI Regional Office, Jaipur, through an appointed agency, covering 188.4 km of city drive routes and eight hotspot locations between 2 and 4 December 2025 in the Haryana Licensed Service Area.
For voice services in 3G and 2G mode, Airtel and VIL recorded a call setup success rate of 100 per cent, while RJIL achieved 99.79 per cent and BSNL 91.27 per cent. Average call setup time was lowest for RJIL at 0.66 seconds, followed by VIL at 0.69 seconds, Airtel at 1.23 seconds and BSNL at 6.59 seconds. Mean Opinion Score values indicated comparatively better speech quality on VIL and RJIL networks.
In data services under auto-selection mode across 5G, 4G, 3G and 2G, RJIL registered the highest average download throughput at 250.35 Mbits per second, followed by Airtel at 230.90 Mbits per second. Airtel recorded the highest average upload throughput at 37.81 Mbits per second. Latency levels remained within competitive ranges across all operators.
The assessment covered key areas of Sonipat city, including Seoli, Jatheri, Harsana Kalan, Jeevan Vihar, Sector 23, Sector 15, Model Town, Sector 33, Sector 12, Murthal Road, Kumashpur and Bahalgarh, among others.
