TRAI Drive Test Assesses Mobile Quality in Bikaner District

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) reported the results of an Independent Drive Test conducted across Bikaner district in Rajasthan. The exercise covered Bikaner city, Nokha and Shri Dungargarh towns, a section of the Amritsar to Jamnagar Bharatmala National Highway (NH 754A) from Deshnok to Norangdesar and the Pugal to Ranjeetpura National Highway (NH 911). The Regional Office at Jaipur commissioned the tests between 13 January and 16 January 2026, covering a distance of 293.8 kilometre (km) within city and town areas, 41.1 km on the first highway and 104.2 km on the second highway.

The drive test assessed voice and data performance using multiple advanced test handsets and real-time monitoring systems. Key performance indicators included call setup success rate, call drop rate, call setup time, call silence and speech quality on a one to five scale, together with download and upload throughput and median latency for data sessions. Results were published on the TRAI website for consumer information and shared with Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) for remedial action.

Performance varied across locations and operators, with generally strong call setup success rates in urban areas but isolated deficiencies on highway stretches. Average download throughput on five generation networks reached over two hundred megabits per second on some operator networks in Bikaner city, while fourth generation download speeds ranged widely across operators and routes. Median latency was low in many urban measurements but exceeded eight hundred milliseconds on one operator on the Pugal to Ranjeetpura route, indicating significant degradation in that corridor.

The report recorded elevated drop rates and call silence incidents on the Pugal to Ranjeetpura highway for some operators and lower speech quality scores on selected stretches, prompting TRAI to request corrective measures. Detailed operator-by-operator measurements and route specific data are available on the TRAI website and have been provided to the operators for follow-up. The authority invited consumers and stakeholders to consult the published report for further details and to contact the regional office in Jaipur for clarification.
