TRAI Releases Network Quality Assessment for Arunachal Pradesh & Nagaland

The drive tests, supervised by the TRAI Regional Office, Kolkata, were conducted between 2 June and 23 June 2025. The assessment covered 270.3 km of city routes, 526.6 km of highways, 28 hotspot locations, and a 1 km walk test, evaluating 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G technologies to reflect user experience across multiple device capabilities. Findings have been shared with all concerned telecom service providers (TSPs).

Key performance metrics included Call Setup Success Rate (CSSR), Drop Call Rate (DCR), call setup time, speech quality, coverage, download/upload throughput, latency, jitter, packet drop rate, and video streaming delay. In Auto-selection mode (5G/4G/3G/2G), Airtel, BSNL, RJIL, and VIL recorded CSSRs of 90.11 per cent, 49.45 per cent, 89.73 per cent, and 67.18 per cent respectively, while drop call rates stood at 1.23 per cent, 6.41 per cent, 2.17 per cent, and 3.68 per cent respectively. Peak 5G data speeds reached 299.92 Mbps for downloads and 44.38 Mbps for uploads in hotspot locations.

In Arunachal Pradesh, tests were carried out in areas such as Hollongi Chariali, Nirjuli Village, Doimukh, and institutional sites including the Arunachal Pradesh State Legislative Assembly, Donyi Polo Airport, and Naharlagun Railway Station. Along National Highway 13 from Itanagar to Bumla Pass, coverage quality was assessed at multiple towns and notable sites including Sela Pass, Bomdila Market, and Jaswantgarh War Memorial, providing insight into inter-city connectivity.

In Nagaland, the evaluation spanned locations such as Khushiabil, Medziphema, and Kohima Village, as well as public and institutional sites like Dimapur Railway Station, Dimapur Airport, Nagaland University, and Kohima Raj Bhawan, capturing both mobile and stationary user experiences.

The IDT results will aid in identifying areas for service enhancement and help TSPs address gaps in network performance, ensuring improved connectivity and user experience across the North Eastern region.
