The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has recently carried out Independent Drive Tests (IDT) to assess mobile network performance in Azamgarh and Mau City, along with nearby areas of Uttar Pradesh (East) LSA. Conducted in December 2025, the tests covered urban zones, hotspots and public transport hubs to capture real-world service quality.

The assessment included 288.2 km of drive tests and 4.3 km of walk tests, evaluating 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G networks of Airtel, BSNL, Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea. Key parameters analysed covered voice services such as call setup success rate, drop call rate, call setup time and speech quality, as well as data metrics including download and upload speeds, latency and packet loss.

The findings showed strong call setup success rates for Airtel, Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea, while BSNL lagged on certain voice and data parameters. In data services, Reliance Jio recorded the highest average download speeds, followed by Airtel and Vodafone Idea. TRAI has shared the detailed results with the concerned telecom service providers for corrective action and service improvement.
