Transport Dept Raises Rs 51.4bn Revenue in FY26 So Far

The Transport department said it generated revenue of Rs 51.42 billion during the first nine months of 2025–26, driven largely by vehicle taxes and regulatory fees. Of the total, Rs 36.11 billion came from lifetime taxes, Rs 7.30 billion from quarterly taxes, Rs 0.57 billion from green tax and Rs 4.08 billion from various fees. Inspections and service charges contributed Rs 1.81 billion, including Rs 1.53 billion from inspection-related services.

With heavy passenger movement expected during the Sankranti holiday season, the department warned private bus operators against charging exorbitant fares. It said strict action would also be taken against operators found illegally transporting goods or violating permit conditions, including running contract carriages as stage carriages.

Officials have been directed to carry out special inspections of private buses during the festive period. Vehicles found flouting rules will be seized, the department said, adding that the enforcement drive is aimed at protecting passengers and ensuring adherence to transport regulations.
