Trichy Corporation will expedite and complete 14 infrastructure proposals by November end.

The integrated command control centre, Uyyakondan riverfront development, smart signage boards and heritage tourism development projects are to be commissioned in the next few weeks.

According to a senior official of the Trichy Corporation, the civic body recently audited the progress of civil work under the smart cities programme, and the contractors were asked to expedite the remaining work. More projects will be available for the public by June 2022.

The Chathiram bus terminus, a commercial complex in Thillai Nagar, and a 2.4 MW solar park in Panjapur are some of the projects left to be commissioned. However, 90% of the project work was already completed. Some main projects, including multilevel car parking, continue to stagger.

Other projects like the truck terminal on East Boulevard Road and Science Technology Engineering Mathematics (STEM) park on Flood Bank Road are progressing steadily.

Trichy Corporation has completed 23 proposals in the last four years under the smart cities programme of developing urban infrastructure in 100 cities in India.

Member of the Trichy Infra-City Development Endeavours (TIDES), N Manivannan, told the media that the delay in completing malls and commercial spaces projects would hinder the city's commercial growth. Some leading retailers and multiplexes who are looking for commercial spaces might go for private complexes.
